Mid-Sized Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Firm - United States

Staff: 8 CPAs + 12 support staff

Annual Client Base: 1,400+ individual & business returns

Primary Services: Tax preparation, bookkeeping, audit support

During the 2024–2025 filing season, a mid-sized CPA firm engaged our team to support their growing client workload. With more than 1,400 individual and business tax returns in process, their internal staff was operating beyond capacity.

Deadlines for Forms 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 were approaching, and the firm faced increasing pressure to maintain compliance with regulations set by the Internal Revenue Service while preserving service quality.

Our Solution

Our role was to function as a seamless extension of their tax department. We provided dedicated preparation support for individual and business returns, including multi-state filings, Schedule K-1 allocations, depreciation calculations, and Qualified Business Income (QBI) deductions under Section 199A. All work was delivered through the firm’s existing tax software platform and followed their internal review protocols, ensuring consistency with their standards.

In addition to tax preparation, we conducted technical accuracy reviews to reduce partner-level review time. Our team reconciled payroll tax filings, verified Forms 941 and 940, cross-checked W-2 and 1099-NEC reporting, and corrected fixed asset schedules using Form 4562 guidelines. By improving first-pass accuracy, we significantly reduced revision cycles and internal bottlenecks.

Beyond compliance, our accounting support services strengthened the firm’s client deliverables. We handled bookkeeping cleanup, bank reconciliations, year-end adjusting journal entries, and preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements. This allowed CPA partners to shift focus from routine processing tasks to higher-margin advisory services such as tax planning, entity structuring, and financial consulting.

As a result of our partnership, the CPA firm eliminated its filing backlog within weeks, avoided late-return penalties, and increased overall operational efficiency. Most importantly, they improved profitability without expanding full-time payroll—creating a scalable model for future tax seasons.

Results

As a result of our tax and accounting support, the CPA firm successfully eliminated its seasonal backlog within the first month of engagement.

All federal individual and business returns—including Forms 1040, 1120-S, and 1065—were filed on time in compliance with requirements established by the Internal Revenue Service.

The firm avoided late-filing penalties and preserved its reputation for timely, accurate service.

Operational efficiency improved significantly. First-pass accuracy increased to 98%, reducing partner review time by approximately 35%. This allowed senior CPAs to reallocate their time from technical corrections and data cleanup to high-value advisory services such as tax planning, entity structuring, and client consultations.

As a direct result, the firm increased advisory billings by 28% during the same tax season.
